Play Ideas

You may be wondering how to incorporate Rosh Hashanah themes into your everyday play. It’s a lot easier than you might think. One great way is to explore the tradition of eating apples and honey to bring a sweet new year. Try dipping apples into honey and asking kids to describe what it tastes and feels like.

What’s next?

Apple Play

Do an apple taste test using apples from a local farm or market. Pick up different colors and varieties, try each one, and describe how they taste. Let everyone vote for their favorite one. This simple activity engages all of your child’s senses, encourages curiosity, and introduces the idea of experimentation. It’s also a great opportunity for language development, as kids learn concepts of sweet and tart, crunchy and soft, round and smooth.

We’re big playdough fans, so I loved finding this Autumn-Scented Playdough Trio from Chickadees Wooden Toys to bring in apple, pumpkin, and cider scents.

Exploring Bees & Honey

Kids love learning about bees, their homes, the different jobs each bee has in the hive, and where our honey comes from. Creating bee-themed sensory play is a fun way to introduce these concepts.

I love these adorable felted wool bees, wooden honeycombs, and Honeycomb Tinker Kit. My kids love all things play dough so I was thrilled to see this set of bee-themed playdough cutters.
